A successful blog is like a good cookie; it needs the right ingredients for it to be perfect. If an ingredient is missing from the batch, then your cookies (blog) won’t be successful. Below we’ve laid out five ingredients to make your blog so good you’ll have people begging for a second helping.

  1. The Right Topic

Choosing the proper topic of a blog is the most important step. The topic needs to be relevant to the intended audience. A blog with a compelling topic will increase the likely-hood of your blog being shared on different social media platforms, even if the person sharing it doesn’t read the blog. Making sure that the right keywords are included in the title of your blog is essential.

  1. Structure

A good blog will have a sound structure that is organized in a way to keep reading flow moving. Without organization, sentences and words will be scattered throughout the whole article. A great way to help add flow is to break up your blog with subheadings, bullet points, and paragraph breaks. This will improve the readability of your blog, therefore improving the flow.

  1. Proper Length

The length of your blog is extremely important. Too short and you won’t be able to get in the proper amount of information, and you’ll leave your reader with unanswered questions. Too long and the reader will lose interest. Although every blog and situation is different, the sweet spot for the length of a blog is around 500 words.

  1. Attention to Spelling and Grammar

Everyone will harmlessly misplace a comma or use the wrong “there, their, or they’re.” Although it is okay to make those mistakes when typing up your blog, it’s not okay to publish or post your blog with those mistakes still present. Triple check your work before publishing. Always make sure that you have someone else read over your work before posting too, to get a fresh set of eyes on your blog. Also, there are a number of free grammar and spelling software options out there – don’t be afraid to utilize one.

  1. Call to Action

So, you got someone to read your blog, great! Now what? Well, the reason to write the blog in the first place is to provoke a reaction out of them. Whether it’s to get them to join an email list, or sell a product you need to include a call to action. A call to action is a call to provoke action from your reader – i.e., shop now, call now, click here, or any sort of engagement like leaving a comment. A call to action should be included at the end of every blog.

Now that you know the ingredients to a great blog it’s time to start writing. Remember the 5 ingredients above, and you’ll be on the fast track to successful blog writing.
